Best Time of Year to Buy a Sauna: When the Deals Are Real
Saunas aren't like groceries - you don't buy them on impulse. When you're spending $3,000-$8,000, timing your purchase to catch the best deal can save you hundreds or even over a thousand dollars. But the timing isn't always obvious.
Here's when sauna prices actually drop, when they don't, and how to get the best deal no matter what time of year it is.
The Seasonal Pattern
Sauna sales follow a predictable cycle driven by demand. Understanding this cycle helps you buy at the right moment.
Peak demand (September through January): This is when most people buy saunas. The weather turns cold, holiday gift-giving kicks in, and people start imagining themselves in a warm sauna during winter. Prices are highest during this window, though holiday sales (Black Friday, Christmas) create exceptions.
Low demand (March through June): Spring and early summer are the off-season for sauna sales. Fewer buyers mean more motivated sellers. This is when you'll find the best everyday prices, deepest clearance discounts, and the most willingness from retailers to negotiate or throw in extras.
Transition (July through August): Late summer is when manufacturers and retailers start preparing for fall inventory. You might catch end-of-summer clearance on last year's models, but new inventory starts arriving at full price.
Best Specific Times to Buy
Late Winter / Early Spring (February-April) - Best Overall Value
This is quietly the best time to buy a sauna. The holiday rush is over, retailers are clearing winter inventory to make room for next season, and demand is at its lowest. You'll find genuine markdowns rather than manufactured "sale" pricing.
Many retailers also offer free shipping or upgraded delivery during this window to move inventory. It's the least competitive time to shop, so customer service has more time for your questions too.
Black Friday / Cyber Monday (Late November) - Best for Specific Sales Events
Black Friday is one of the few times you'll see significant markdowns during peak season. Discounts of 10-25% are common, and some retailers go deeper on specific models. The catch: popular models sell out fast, and not every "deal" is a real discount. We'll cover that more in our sauna Black Friday guide.
Labor Day / Memorial Day Sales
These holiday weekends typically bring 10-15% off promotions from major sauna retailers. Not as deep as Black Friday, but decent. Memorial Day falls right in the off-season sweet spot, making it a solid time to buy.
End of Year (December-January)
Some retailers offer year-end clearance to hit annual sales targets. This overlaps with peak demand, so the deals are more about specific models they want to move rather than across-the-board discounts.
When NOT to Buy
Avoid buying in September or October unless there's a specific sale. This is when demand starts rising but holiday promotions haven't kicked in yet. You'll pay the highest effective prices during this window.
Also be skeptical of "limited time" sales that seem to run continuously. If a company always has a sale, they don't really have a sale - they just have inflated list prices. Real sales are tied to specific dates and end when they say they will.
How to Get the Best Deal Regardless of Timing
- Sign up for email lists: Retailers send their best deals to email subscribers first. Some offer subscriber-only discounts of 5-10% on top of any running sale.
- Ask about floor models or demos: Showroom display saunas sell at 20-40% off. Same sauna, maybe a few scratches.
- Check for package deals: Buying a sauna + accessories (heater upgrade, rocks, thermometer) together often comes with a bundled discount.
- Compare total cost, not just sticker price: A sauna priced $200 lower but charging $400 for shipping isn't actually cheaper. Compare delivered prices.
- Ask about last year's models: When new models come in, the previous year's versions often get discounted even though they're functionally identical.
Should You Wait for a Sale?
If it's February through June, you're probably already getting close to the best pricing. If it's August or September and Black Friday is a few months away, waiting could save you 10-20%. If it's any time and you see a deal that hits your budget, don't overthink it - the difference between the "best" price and a "good" price is usually a few hundred dollars on a multi-thousand-dollar purchase.
The real cost of waiting is the sessions you miss. Every month without a sauna is a month of benefits you're not getting.
