Safe diagnostic workflow
- Cool and isolate. Turn the sauna off and let the door, heater, and hardware cool. Follow electrical isolation instructions if sensors or powered hardware are involved.
- Remove temporary obstructions. Check mats, towels, debris, swollen thresholds, loose trim, and objects behind the outward swing.
- Mark the contact. Use a removable method approved for the finish. Open and close gently while observing where the leaf first touches.
- Measure the perimeter gaps. Record the hinge side, latch side, head, and floor clearance at several points.

A catch set too deeply can feel like sticking even when the leaf has clearance. A new gasket or generic weatherstrip can increase closing force, shift the leaf, or interfere with an under-door ventilation design. A remote-control door sensor can also require defined alignment.

Cleaning a contact edge, tightening approved fasteners, or restoring maker-defined hinge alignment may solve the problem without cutting. Sanding or planing should come later and only for a documented wood assembly that permits it.
Before removing wood, mark the finish boundary, hardware depth, glass pocket if present, joints, edge profile, latch relationship, and required gaps. Seal or refinish the altered edge only with the approved product. A door with rot, failed joints, widespread warp, delamination, or damaged glazing may need replacement rather than reshaping.
Glass-door correction boundaries

Another sauna may use a different frame, glass leaf, seals, or hardware. Restore the geometry shown for the installed product instead of copying a generic residential door detail.
Verify that correction does not reduce the outward opening route, landing clearance, ventilation gap, heater distance, sensor function, or ability to exit without a lock. A door that closes beautifully but is harder to open is not an improvement.
When to stop and call for service
- Tempered glass is cracked, chipped, edge-damaged, or shifting in its hardware.
- The frame, wall, floor, or rough opening is moving or out of square.
- Hinges, anchors, fasteners, or jamb material are damaged.
- The wood is soft, decayed, delaminated, or repeatedly wet.
- The door cannot open easily, interferes with the landing, or affects a safety sensor.
- The repair requires removing glass, modifying a rated assembly, or working near electrical components.
